Roles in Collaboration Contracts

Each participant in a Collaboration Contract selects one of five roles for each decision item. These roles ensure clarity and accountability.
All roles agree to abide by the final decision.

The Five Roles

Role     Description
Explain Sole Decision Maker - Makes the decision and informs the group
“I’ll choose the ad agency and share the rationale.”
Consult Sole decision-maker but seeks input before deciding
“I’ll choose the agency but want everyone’s feedback first.”
Agree Collective decision-making. Works with others in the Agree role to decide.
“Let’s decide as a team.”
Advise Provides input but doesn’t make the decision.
“I don’t need to decide, but I have helpful insights.”
Accept Observer role. No decision-making or input.
“I trust the group’s judgment and will accept the decision.”
Abstain Not affected by decision. Non-participant. No decision-making or input.
“I do not need to be involved at all; not even informed.”
